Hurricane man dies in helicopter crash in Texas

UPDATED Oct. 10 to include funeral service information.

TEXAS – A Hurricane man, identified as Joshua Fitts, 34,  was killed in a helicopter crash in a rural area of Cottle County, Texas, Sunday.

A press release from Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Ray related the weather was clear when Fitts, a helicopter pilot, was hovering in a helicopter next to a power line.  The tail of the helicopter clipped part of the power line and caused the helicopter to crash.

Fitts was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Zapata Funeral Home in Paducah, Texas.

The helicopter crash is currently being investigated.

UPDATE: Joshua Fitts’ funeral will be this Saturday evening October 12. A viewing will be provided at 4 p.m., and the funeral will follow at 5 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints behind Wal-Mart in Hurricane. The address is 320 North 3400 West, Hurricane, Utah.
