IVINS – The Kayenta Arts Foundation is proud to present Poetry Under the Stars 2, an evening of one-of-a-kind performance poetry, on Sunday.

The public is invited to enjoy a group of remarkable poets perform on stage. Local poet Ryan Rutkoskie, the creative force behind last year’s sold-out event, and A.J. Moyer, Kari O’Connor and Nathan Say, three Las Vegas-based poets, will entertain onlookers with personal interpretations of their own original work.

“If you’ve never attended a performance poetry event before, you’re missing something very special,” said Garry Morris, co-artistic director of the Kayenta Arts Foundation. “It’s the perfect confluence of poetry and theatre. Just like good theatre, performance poetry touches your heart and opens your mind.”

Poetry Under the Stars 2 will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kayenta Outdoor Theatre, located in the Coyote Gulch Art Village in the Kayenta community. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door. Tables will be set up so that everyone can sit back, eat, relax and be drawn into the world of the artist; bring a picnic along and make an evening of it.

Each published and extremely talented poet has a very different style and were selected to highlight the diversity and unique multi-culturalism of the Southwest. Poems will include traditional, rap and everything in between. Due to the mature nature of some pieces, Poetry Under the Stars 2 is recommended for audiences over age 16.

The Kayenta Arts Foundation was established in February 2011 with the mission of developing and creating an environment that fosters diverse artistic endeavors for educational and enrichment purposes. It is a non-profit organization.
