Hurricane man wins Healthy Dixie award for January

HURRICANE – The Healthy Dixie Council has selected Steve Garcia as the recipient of the Healthy Dixie Award for January 2012.

Garcia played a large role in establishing the Hurricane City Pickleball courts.

“Steve petitioned the Hurricane City Council to fund the building of Pickleball courts,” said Arthur LeBaron, who nominated Garcia for the award. “He would not take no for an answer, and was successful in getting the project funded,” “Steve was also involved in the design of the courts and gave many valuable suggestions which were incorporated into their construction. During the process, Steve began organizing Pickleball clinics and tournaments.”

“The Healthy Dixie Award is an opportunity to recognize people or organizations who are taking action to improve the health of our community,” said Locke Ettinger, the Council president. “The Healthy Dixie Council wants to thank them for their contribution.”

Healthy Dixie is a local coalition of citizens, businesses, city governments, the school district, and health entities working together to promote health and wellness. For more information, visit www.healthydixie.org.
